Certifications & Designations

Ongoing education is just one of the ways that BAAA is dedicated to keeping members informed with the latest educational materials. Whether you’re getting certified through a professional course or just brushing up at a seminar, staying current on the ever-changing apartment industry is vital to your success.

We offer seminars throughout the year that provide information from leasing, marketing, and maintenance to fair housing and legal. Most seminars allow for Continuing Education Credits for NAA Credentials. Instruction comes from local specialists, governmental entities, and nationally recognized professionals.

Certification Programs

CERTIFIED POOL OPERATOR, CPO

Through the National Swimming Pool Foundation, all of BAAA's instructors are approved providers of the CPO certification. This is a 2-day course that includes the certification exam.

EPA 608 REFRIGERANT HANDLING CERTIFICATION

The Federal Clean Air Act, Section 608, requires that persons who service air conditioning and refrigeration systems containing certain refrigerants be certified under a Federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved course. Through the ESCO Institute, BAAA's instructors are able to offer this Universal Certification. This is a 1-day course that includes the certification exam.

Over the years, BAAA has trained hundreds of individuals in the rental housing industry. It's your time!

All credentials must be renewed annually for the exception of CAMT, which is a lifetime credential.

Certified Apartment Manager (CAM) 

The Certified Apartment Manager (CAM) is a vital link between the resident and the community owners and investors. Earning your CAM credential gives you the knowledge to increase your community’s net operating income. Whether you’re new to apartment management or a long-time property manager, you’ll enhance your skills, knowledge, and ability to effectively manage an apartment community and achieve its owners’ investment goals.

  • Exam: 185 questions; 4 hours; $100 retake fee

Certificate for Apartment Maintenance Technicians (CAMT) 



Maintenance expenses are the single largest controllable element in any operating budget. This course is designed as an introduction for new maintenance professionals or as a refresher for the veteran employee, to give these professionals the knowledge and tools necessary to run an effective maintenance program.

  • Completion Requires: Seven courses plus online content (which total 90 ½ hours) and meeting all examination requirements within 6 months of declaring candidacy.
  • Candidacy Period: 6 months
  • Extensions: 2 extensions; 6 months each; fee $75
  • Exam: 100 questions; 2.5 hours; $55 retake fee
  • Renewal: None. This is a lifetime credential.
  • Optional AIME Membership: 3 hours of approved NAAEI maintenance training + renewal fee for AIME

Certified Apartment Portfolio Supervisor (CAPS)

Earning your CAPS takes you to the next level in property management. It fast-tracks your career advancement and your corresponding earning potential. The National Apartment Association Education Institute (NAAEI) offers this nationally recognized designation for multi-site supervisors and experienced apartment managers with a CAM, ARM, or RAM designation.

  • Pre-requisite: Minimum of 24 months employment as a multi-site supervisor or be either a CAM, ARM, or RAM credential holder in good standing.
  • Completion Requirement: Five courses listed above (which total 40 hours); and meeting all examination requirements within 6 months of declaring candidacy.
  • Candidacy Period: 6 months
  • Extensions: 2 extensions; 6 months each; fee $75
  • Exam: 160 questions; 4 hours; $100 retake fee
  • Renewal: Annual; fee $125; 8 CECs; $50 reinstatement fee
