Dear NAA Members,

Last night, 10 presidential candidates took the stage for the fifth Democratic debate. For the first time in nearly half a century, a national spotlight was placed on the housing affordability crisis and candidates offered a glimpse into how they plan to tackle this issue.

National Apartment Association (NAA) President & CEO Robert Pinnegar, CAE, released the following statement in response to Wednesday’s Democratic debate:

“Our leaders must support sustainable housing affordability policies that provide real relief to residents, housing operators and owners alike. Too often politicians embrace deeply flawed, quick-fix proposals that do nothing to address the root of the housing problem – a lack of housing supply at all price points amid growing demand. The simple fact is that we need more housing and must streamline and reform targeted programs to assist low- and moderate-income renters. Our nation’s countless rental housing owners and operators, alongside nearly 39 million apartment residents, deserve real solutions to housing affordability issues.”

Best regards,

National Apartment Association
