Eviction Friction:

Legal Issues in the Age of COVID19

Presenters:

  • Harry Heist, Esq. The Law Offices of Heist, Weisse, and Wolk, P.A.
  • Ryan McCain, Esq., Barfield McCain, P.A.

The CDC’s Order extends the national eviction moratorium until December 31st. However, NAA’s preliminary injunction allows us to proceed under state law, and all evictions can be filed at this time provided the eviction does not take place within the moratorium period.

Harry noted that evictions can (and should) be filed now due to a backlog of eviction filings in the system.

Affordable, Attainable, Essential

How do we address the housing crisis going forward?

Panelists:

  • Bonnie Smetzer, JMG Realty, Inc.
  • Trey Price, Florida Housing Finance Corporation
  • Mitchell Glasser, Orange County

Many of you, along with our panel, feel the gap will continue to significantly increase between availability and need for affordable housing. There aren’t enough resources to meet this demand (relatively affordable land, rising material cost, and rising impact fees), and the COVID-19 pandemic has created yet another hurdle for the industry.

To read more on the helpful solutions discussed by our panel to address some of the issues posed by affordable housing and the covid-19 crisis, please see below for access to our summit replay!
